Many dog owners complain that even they didn’t feed their dogs with fish, their breath smells fishy. The reason is behind his licking habit. It is very common for dogs to lick their private areas as sniffing is a communication method for them.

Anal glands present in their rear ends secrete a pungent smell of fishy odor pheromone. These pheromones help the dog identify and understand other dog’s health, fertility, and mental state. Because your dog is cleaning this with his tongue, this smell transfers into their mouth. This makes your pets breathe smell fishy even miles away from the sea.

What can I give my dog for bad mouth smell?

First of all, you have to find the reason behind your dog’s bad smelly breath. If it is due to periodontal disease, contact your veterinarian and schedule a dental cleaning.

Then make sure to brush your dog’s teeth often and try to change their brush at the right time. If it’s due to their bad dietary habit, make sure they do not contact unpleasant substances like road kills and feces.

Please provide them with chewing toys and feed them with a balanced diet with suitable quality foods. Take them to a dog groomer and veterinarian often to find whether there any other disease that causes this bad breath.
